The InterContinental Hotels Group is expanding its portfolio of hotels and resorts in New Zealand with the acquisition of the first two hotels of the private company in Auckland. This comes as French company Accor, which owns brands such as Novotel, Mercure, Ibis and Sofi, today announced that it will reopen its flagship Auckland hotel as part of its plans to become a leading hospitality group offering unique and meaningful experiences in 5,100 hotels in 110 countries. Millennium's hotel and resort portfolio includes four hotels in three Asian cities, including Millennium Hotel and Resorts Amara in Hong Kong and Millennium Resort in Singapore, both of which offer the world's largest collection of luxury hotels with more than 1,000 rooms.
Heritage Hotels, for example, offers four-star accommodation, and Boutique Hanmer Springs is a 1930s spa and city hotel. A fourth brand is being launched in the country, Centra Christchurch, housed in the former Farmers Art Deco building and linked to the InterContinental New Zealand Express hotel chain. With over 1,000 rooms in four hotels and resorts, it has proved to be one of the most successful brands of all.
Crowne Plaza Christchurch New Zealand, originally known as Parkroyal Hotel, is a hotel owned by the Crownes Plaza Group. Vic Allen said: "The original Crowned Plaza is another well-known building in Christ Churchchurch.
The property is on the former Crowne Plaza site, which was demolished in 2012 after the 2011 earthquake. In 1983, Christchurch City Council convened a working group to recommend the removal of Victoria Street and the construction of a tourist hotel on the northwest corner of Victoria Square.
Four potential hotel developments have been negotiated across the country, but to date none have led to a final decision on the location of Christ Church New Zealand Intercontinental Hotel.
With the signing of the current contract, The Carter Group will once again become a partner at Christ Church New Zealand Intercontinental Hotel. The agreement is the first of its kind in the country as it owns the Hotel Group, which operates hotels in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Palmerston North, Dunedin, Otago and Wellington. Within 12 months, two new hotels will be opened - the former Carlton, which was taken over by Novotel Palmerstons North and reopened as Wains Hotel by Mercure Dun Zealand.

Accor is a subsidiary of IHG, the world's largest hotel and hotel management company. With the new Crowne Plaza Christchurch IhG currently operates six hotels in New Zealand, including four hotels in Auckland, two in Wellington and one in Hamilton, as well as a number of other hotels and restaurants.
The new hotel will operate under the brand name Accor Hotels Limited, supported by well-known New Zealand hoteliers such as IhG's own IHG Hotel Group.
